Job Requirements

The science outreach coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all education and outreach related activities in support for NASA’s Operation IceBridge. This project is an airborne survey of Earth's polar ice. It will bridge the gap between NASA's Ice Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat), which stopped collecting data in 2009, and ICESat-2, scheduled for launch in 2016.

Job Requirements

• Must have a BS in an Earth Science-related field
• 3+ years experience developing and implementing Education and Public Outreach plans
• 3+ years experience in science writing in an Earth Science-related field

• Strong organizational and coordination skills in addition to experience with multimedia

Job Duties

• Write and execute PAO and education/outreach plans for individual campaigns
• Adapt the long-term PAO and education/outreach plans for IceBridge as the mission evolves
• Between campaigns, facilitate creation of the mission's core outreach and education content
• Plan and execute IceBridge presence at center and off-center outreach events, and at science meetings
• Supply IceBridge outreach content to science conferences, meetings and events
• Coordinate all IceBridge EPO activities with NASA’s Earth Science News team and the Cryospheric Sciences Branch at Goddard
• Work with the NASA web team to keep the IceBridge mission page up to date, as needed between campaigns and daily during a campaign
• Coordinate production and provide contents for multi-media and visualizations with videographer and the Scientific Visualization Study
• Continue to work with the Joint Committee, a partnership between the US Embassy in Copenhagen and Greenland, to incorporate IceBridge into the committee's education/outreach goals in Greenland
• Write press releases and/or feature stories on science results
• Coordinate outreach and press activities with national and international partner such as ESA’s CryoVEx campaign and CryoSat-2 activities related to Operation IceBridge
• Write a press release/feature story announcing each campaign's start
• Organize and host one on-site media days and one on-site outreach day for each campaign
• Work with PAO leads at all NASA centers and University partners involved and incorporate their input into the plan
• Continue to work with the University of Magallanes in Punta Arenas, and the U.S. embassy in Santiago, during the Antarctic campaign based in Chile
• Supply IceBridge multimedia content to the owner of the NASA_ICE twitter and Flickr accounts, and host live multimedia events from the field
