Program: Executive Information Decision Support (EI/DS)

EI/DS provides the centralized data store for the MHS (Military Health Systems) with active interface to more than 260 systems around the globe. EI/DS is currently comprised of a data warehouse and multiple operational data marts supporting over 2500 users. EI/DS is known for providing an exceptionally robust database and suite of decision support tools to empower the effective management of MHS healthcare operations.

EDS and Telophase worked together on many of the customer's requirements. Their professionals helped us achieve many of the organizational goals and feel very fortunate to be teamed with a quality company like Telophase. —  Kimberly Law, Advanced Systems Engineering Team, EDS

The Work Performed

Data Warehousing

Telophase personnel were responsible for the successful deployment of the initial EI/DS Electronic Data Warehouse (EDW) environment, housed on a 22-node IBM SP/2 parallel processing system. Our personnel implemented various components for this production environment; including data feed management, multi-terabyte backup management employing IBM’s AdStar Storage, and information assurance. Furthermore, Telophase was also responsible for designing and implementing the methodology for handling HL7, SIDR, SADR, ADS, MEQS, and DMLSS UDR data feeds. Supported and managed processes for validation, transformation, extraction (EDW ETL layer), and database loading.

Business Intelligence Services

Telophase personnel participated in building data marts and data repositories to support business analysis and decision support requirements. Included in these activities was the development up of a global Business Objects Repository that supported over 100 Military Treatment Facilities in supporting their need for analytics data. This data was used to establish treatment trends and generate operational and functional policies to better serve the patients in the Military Health community.

The Results

  • Performed validation and qualification checks to ensure data values meet standards
  • Ensured user knows what the data is, its source, what was done/appended to it and when it was updated
  • Consistency by using same baseline business rules used for all data mart extracts
  • Allowed focus on analysis functionality vs. data quality
